Jemma Simmons has always been the 'smart girl'. When she was a child, this was a problem - she was the one who knew the hours the library was open but couldn't name the singers in any of the popular bands, the girl with the book and the right answer but never quite getting the pop culture reference. She learned unrelenting cheerfulness as a self-defense early on, and used it ruthlessly until she ran into another person who was pretty much just like her.
